A Brazilian Story With Universal Themes
Flamengo is the setting. Family, memory and belonging are the story.
Raízes Rubro-Negras is rooted in Brazilian football culture, but its emotional territory goes far beyond the pitch. It is about what families pass from one generation to the next, how loss reshapes identity and how a person learns to carry a legacy without losing a voice of their own.
Futebol
Brazilian football as cultural memory
Flamengo is not used only as a sporting backdrop. The club becomes part of family language, rituals, memories and identity.
Family
A legacy passed from father to son
The story explores what we inherit from the people who shape us and what it means to keep that inheritance alive in our own way.
Saudade
Memory, loss and the search for a voice
At its core, the novel is also about absence, resilience and the courage to build a path of your own while remaining connected to where you came from.
Futebol, Memory & Belonging
A passion passed from one generation to the next
Some passions cannot be contained in the result of a match. They begin at home, cross generations and become part of who we are.
Raízes Rubro-Negras uses futebol as the thread connecting a story about family, longing, identity and legacy. Through the journey of Lucas Martins, the novel explores how a love for Flamengo can carry memories, strengthen bonds and help someone find his own voice.
More than a story about a football club, this is a book about what we receive from those who came before us and what we choose to carry forward.
A Story That Has Reached Many Hands
Encounters that became part of the book's journey
Since its release, Raízes Rubro-Negras has crossed paths with people from Brazilian football, sports, media and culture. These photographs are records of those encounters, not endorsements, and have become part of the story around the book.

The Story
Between a father's legacy and the search for a voice of his own
Lucas Martins grew up listening to his father tell stories of unforgettable matches and learning that futebol can also pass on values, create bonds and preserve memories. A love for Flamengo became a family inheritance and a fundamental part of his identity.
When loss changes the course of his life, Lucas finds in futebol a place of refuge and continuity. Through memories, challenges and decisions, he tries to honor the legacy he received while building his own path as a sports journalist.
In Raízes Rubro-Negras, passion for a club extends far beyond the stands. It shapes choices, strengthens relationships and follows a family through time.
A story about loyalty, resilience and belonging, where each memory helps us understand who we are and what we choose to carry forward.
Why This Book Exists
A tribute to my father and to the story that brought me here
I always wanted to write a book, even when I did not yet know how I would do it or which story I would tell. Raízes Rubro-Negras was born when I realized that some of my own experiences could become the foundation for a work of fiction.
Lucas Martins is a fictional character, but parts of my life are present in his journey. The book carries memories I built with my father, moments shared with my family and experiences that shaped my relationship with Flamengo. I changed names, circumstances and contexts, but preserved the emotional essence of those stories.
This book is, above all, a tribute to my father. It is a way of writing about passion and saudade, about what we receive from those who came before us and the legacy we choose to continue carrying.
Lucas's journey as a sports journalist also speaks to my own. The beginning, the difficulties, the resistance found in some environments and the search for a voice of his own are all part of that path.
In the novel, those experiences become fiction to show that finding a place in journalism also requires persistence, identity and the courage to keep going.
Raízes Rubro-Negras is a work of fiction, but it carries a great deal of who I am. It is part of my story, my family and the essence I chose to put on the page.
